Statistics Canada provides demographic data for each Federal Electoral District (ridings). Campaign Research has a database of these 121 federal ridings in Ontario by age, gender and FSA. The granularity of the Statistics Canada data allows us to then merge these ridings into 8 distinct regions for Ontario with 12 categories each of age and gender demography. This creates 96 categories for a well-balanced sample and a higher level of confidence in the data.
These 96 regions are also used to create quotas for the study and reduce the need for any significant weighting of the data. The regional data, if necessary, is used to weight the overall data to make the results representative of the whole voting population. The regional data is cross-checked by collecting FSA’s from each respondent.
Where and how is the study conducted?
This research was conducted between Sept 13th and 15th, 2021 among a sample of 1,811 respondents who are eligible voters in Ontario and part of the Maru Blue research panel.
The study was conducted through online surveys. A probabilistic sample of a similar size would have a margin of error of plus or minus 2%, 19 times out of 20.
