Campaign Research Poll is an online public opinion omnibus survey conducted among 752 Toronto voters between January 9th and 11th, 2018. As public debate continues over the King Street Transit Pilot Project (“Pilot”), Campaign Research will be polling Torontonians on an ongoing basis to gauge what the public believes about commute times for both transit riders and car drivers, reliability of the transit service, effect on ridership, effect on local businesses and on improvements that could be made. Attached are tables that show the questions that were asked, the question order and the demographic breakouts for responses to each question.
The key findings for January are that 27% of Torontonians believe that the King Street Pilot works well, requires some minor improvements and should be made permanent. 47% believe that the Pilot is not as bad as they initially expected, that some significant improvements are required and that the pilot should continue. 26% believe that the Pilot is not working for car drivers and/ or local businesses and should be cancelled. There has been no significant change in these findings compared to our study that was conducted in December 2017.
Respondents offered their recommendations for improvements (in order of priority) to the Pilot project. Two recommendations stood out as far more important to Torontonians than any other; 22% of Torontonians indicate that they want more streetcar capacity and 20% of Torontonians want to see more done to support local businesses.
Finally, as we found in the December 2017 study, Torontonians who support Doug Ford continue to be quite split on their impressions of the success of the pilot project and how they want to see this project proceed.

This online poll was conducted by Campaign Research as part of its monthly omnibus study between January 9th to 11th 2018, The study was conducted among a random sample from an online panel of 752 Toronto voters whose incentives for participation were handled by the panel provider and who were selected to reflect Toronto’s age and gender distributions in line with 2016 Statistics Canada census data.
A probability sample of this size would have a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6%, 19 out of 20 times. Data was weighted by age and gender of Toronto according to 2016 Statistics Canada census data. If you require more information, please contact us as it is available upon request.
